Fast Food in America Shall we take a look?
There is a common misconception that meals at fast food restaurants are cheaper than home-cooked meals. Research shows that a healthy meal of chicken, potatoes, and a salad is not only healthier, but also much cheaper than a full meal at a fast food restaurant. However, home made meals take longer to prepare, and the instant gratification of buying already prepared food then and that is more satisfying.
Fast food restaurants are targeting kids because they are usually more susceptible to advertisements. Friendly and fun mascots create the illusion that fast food chains are very family friendly. The little toy that is included in the Happy Meal is yet another advertising tool to attract children. Around 17 percent of children and adolescents are obese in the United States.
These days everybody knows that sex sells. Fast food chains aren`t an exception since they use gorgeous celebrities, female sexuality, and messages with double meanings to attract teens and adults to buy burgers, sandwiches, fries, and etc. These ads create an illusion that healthy and trim bodies goes hand in hand with eating burgers, and since celebrities do it (at least in the ads) you should do it too.
A regular can of Coke has 39 grams of sugar, which equals to approximately ten sugar cubes. Studies are being done to learn whether caramel coloring , a common ingredient in soda, causes cancer. Weight and health issues are often associated with soda, yet, the are often words such as “refreshing,” associated with soft drinks in ads and commercials that create more appeal. Celebrities are promoting soda drink and that helps to acquire more consumers. Even Santa is dragged into the mess. What kid isn`t going to want a bottle of Coke if Santa drinks it? Such ads are helping to improve business but they are also making more and more people sick.
