Arts and Humanities The Arts and Humanities endorsement is a curriculum path that allows for a student to focus deeply on courses directly related to fine arts, foreign languages, or social studies. • China Spring High School Arts and Humanities career cluster includes: Art, Choir, Music (Band), Spanish, Theater, & Social Studies. POPULAR ARTS AND HUMANITIES CAREERS INCLUDE: • Photographer • Educator • Editor • Fashion designer • Writer • Actor, Producer or Director • Artist • Dancer, Dance Choreographer • Musician • Translator

HUMAN SERVICES The Human Services endorsement is a curriculum pathway that allows a student to focus deeply on courses directly related to families and human needs. • China Spring High School Human Services career pathway (tentative based on interest) includes one of the following: • Counseling & Mental Health • Child Development • POPULAR HUMAN SERVICES CAREERS INCLUDE: • Teacher • Social Worker • Case Worker • Child Care Worker/Child Care Director • School or Private Counselor • Sociologist/Psychologist • Recreation Worker • Cosmetologist/Hairstylist • Home Health Aide • Mental Health Provider • Drug Abuse Counselor • Child Abuse Worker/Investigator

HEALTH SCIENCE The Health Science endorsement is a curriculum pathway that allows a student to focus deeply on courses directly related to careers that promotes health, wellness and diagnosis, and treats injuries and diseases. • China Spring High School offers (tentative based on interest) one career pathway: Health Science • POPULAR HEALTH SCIENCE CAREERS INCLUDE: • Nursing • Physician • Surgeon • Dentist • Scientist • Nutritionist/ Dietician • Medical/Public Health Researcher • Medical Lab Technician • Physician’s/Medical Assistant • Physical Therapists • Hospital Administrator • Pharmacist • Pharmacy Tech

STEM In the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math career pathway students focus deeply on courses that challenge creativity, problem solving and critical thinking. • China Spring High School offers career pathways in the following: • STEM MATH - A total of five credits in mathematics by successfully completing • Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 and two additional math courses for which Algebra 2 is a prerequisite. • STEM SCIENCE - A total of fivecredits in science by successfully completing • Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and two additional science classes. • POPULAR STEM CAREERS INCLUDE: • Engineers • Medical Scientist • Health and Safety Engineers • Physicists/Chemists • Microbiologists • Statisticians • Environmental Scientist • Aerospace Engineers

Multidisciplinary Multidisciplinary studies programs are not a pre-determined course of study as are most degree programs, but are rather a unique combination of courses chosen by a student based upon his or her specific educational and career interests. Students typically combine courses from up to three disciplines. A student might choose a multidisciplinary studies program if his or her specific goals and interests cannot be met through a school's existing majors, minors and electives. Multidisciplinary studies are also an option for students to combine completed coursework from various disciplines and want to combine them into a single degree program.

MULTIDISCIPLINARY STUDIES cont… China Spring High School Multidisciplinary career pathway includes one of the following: • 4 X 4 content area (4 credits in each the core subjects including Math, Science, Social Studies and English Language Arts ) • 4 X 4 content area with Honors – must have 4 credits that are AP and/or dual credit, or a combination. Overall, multidisciplinary studies program breaks traditional boundaries of course curricula and offers a broader learning experience as you pursue your personal and professional interests. In a multidisciplinary studies degree program, you'll develop skills in logic and integrative thinking in addition to communication, writing and research.

  21. So What do Colleges Want? • Currently Colleges are not expressing a preference over endorsement type. ***This may change.*** • Colleges are still looking for a well rounded student who has a high likelihood of finishing a degree.

The most competitive students will - • Have high GPA and class rank • Have performed well on standardized assessments like ACT and SAT • Have taken advanced measures classes -honors and advanced placement courses • Will be involved in extra curricular activities including Fine Arts, UIL, and Athletics. • Will be a member of a service organization and will perform community service • Be recognized as a peer leader • And many others…

So where do we go from here? • We are required by the state to have a meeting with every incoming freshman’s guardians. • We will help you tailor a graduation plan for you student. • We will try our best to give you quality information so you can make educated choices. • We are developing contingency and fall back plans for our students. • It is important that you pick the best path for your student.

Student Scheduling Appointments for the state required student/parent course selection will be held at the China Spring High School on Thursday, April 3rd and Friday, April 4th from 4:00 pm until 7:20 pm. You may sign up for a 20 minute time slot after the parent meeting tonight, or call the counseling office at 254-836-1771. Please review the endorsements and fill out the Graduation Plan provided for you in your packet and bring it with you.

  27. SUCCESS EDUCATION AFTER HIGH SCHOOL It is a fact that young people who have at least one year of post high school education earns thousands of dollars more a year. So, if you spend one or more years at a 2 or 4 year college, in a certification program at a technical school, or in an apprenticeship after you graduated from high school, you will very likely earn higher wages all your life. By furthering your education, you will be better prepared to successful navigate the world of work.
