GOLD FEVER • People all over the world dropped what they were doing to go to California. • 30,000 go by land • 25,000 go by sea
SAN FRANCISCO • Almost all ofSan Francisco’s 900 residents left to chase gold. • The city became a temporary ghost town.
California Gold…free for the taking! • The San Francisco area was swarmed with people from all over the world. • The miners gave some other boomtowns colorful names such as Shinbone Peak & You Bet!
The Days Of Gold Are Gone!! • The Gold Rush was only 7yrs long.(1848-1855) • Very few 49ers lasted wealthy. • Many lost their money through gambling or wild spending. • The Gold Rush increased agriculture, shipping, & trade.
