Literacy Objectives • Make interesting word choices • Begin to write simple sentences • Start to use full stops and capital letters • Most letters are formed correctly • Using Fred fingers to sound out unfamiliar words • Take care of punctuation when reading • Retell known stories and reflect on their meaning • To be able to read and use set 1,2 and 3 sounds when reading and writing
Literacy • Read Write Inc Programme • Children have a phonics, reading and writing lesson for an hour each day • Phonics • Children are taught individual sounds for each letter • Each letter will have a picture and ‘saying’ to help the children recall the sound • Children will be taught to use Fred fingers/Fred talk to use the sounds to read a word s a t sat

Literacy • Reading • As part of the literacy programme the children will be reading every day. • This includes red and green words. • First practise reading the red and green words with their perfect partner. • Second read the words within a simple story. • Third discuss the story and answer questions.
Literacy • Writing • Writing is based upon the story they have read, these will vary depending upon which stage your child is currently at. • Filling in missing words. • Children will be given a sentence to hold, this will be repeated until the children can confidently recall. I sit on a log. • Children then have to write the sentence. • Longer writing task.

Numeracy • Put numbers 1-20 in order. • Write numbers beyond 20. • Use more/less and equal with numbers. • Know by heart all number bonds to 10. • Begin to use the +/-/= signs • Adding and subtracting numbers up to 20.

How to help your child • Reading • Fred talk, blending and segmenting. • Support them to recognise high frequency words, for example, that, there, then, it, and, went, was. • Questioning and discussing the story. • What is the story about? • Who are the main characters and what do they do? • What happens in the beginning, middle and end? • Your child is responsible for changing their own book on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday
How to help your child • Writing • Forming letters correctly. • Spelling CVC words. • Writing short full sentences. • Remembering to use punctuation, focusing on capital letters and full stops. • Keeping writing neat and tidy (finger spaces, writing on the line etc…)
How to help your child • Mathematics • Recognising, writing and ordering numbers to 100. • Counting on or back in 1’s from different starting points to 100. • Adding and subtracting using the methods shown tonight. • Number bonds
