  2. Personification • An animal given human-like qualities or an object given life-like qualities • The sun was smiling down on me

  3. Alliteration • Consonant sounds repeated at the beginning of words • My dog dug a deep whole an my backyard an my dad had to fell it back up

  4. Assonance • Repeated VOWELS sounds in a line or lines of poetry • Yeah, that’s its name it’s what I am trying to define

  5. Hyperbole • Exaggeration often used for emphasis • The Star test is going to be easy

  6. Onomatopoeia • Words that imitate the sound they are naming • Roar, Bing , Buzz, Bang, Boom

  7. Metaphor • A direct comparison of two unlike things

  8. Simile • A comparison of two things using “like” or “as”

  9. Imagery • Most images are visual, but they can also appeal to the senses of sound, touch, taste, or smell

  10. Idiom • An expressing were the literal meaning of the expression. It means something other than what it actually says.(It’s raining cats and dogs)

  11. Consonance • The repeating consonant sounds can be anywhere in the words • Anny was at the animal store
