Web Soil Survey • Available on-line • http://websoilsurvey.nrcs.usda.gov/app/WebSoilSurvey.aspx • Very useful – no need to find in soil survey book • Can search the whole United States • All information in Soil Survey Book is located on-line, just have to navigate to it. • Will ‘Time-out’ – you will need to start over.
AOI • Must chose an AOI (Area of Interest) to go any further. • AOI must be 10,000 ac or less.
Soil Data Veiwer • Choose a category on left side • Click on View Rating • Can choose Printable Version – ends up at least three pages long. Map, map legend and chart.
Quiz Time!!!!!!! • What soil type is under the building we are in? • What is the “T” factor for this soil type? • What is the rating for the Suitability for Roads? • If I wanted to build a road around this parking lot, according to soil types, would it be better on the west or east side? • In this AOI, what % could be restored to a savanna? • How big is the lake you passed, coming to this building?

Topo Model • Fill colored water 1cm at a time • Draw line on top at water level • Try to look down at the same angle each time • Continue until you get to the 8cm level. • You can alternate different colors for each level • Each line will represent a contour interval
Clinometer • Do not have to have a specified distance • Look at something the same height as you eyes • Keep both eyes open • Read % slope on the right side of display • Typically will be displayed in whole numbers
