Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) • The Educational Opportunity Program is designed to improve access and retention of historically low-income and educationally disadvantaged students. EOP students have the potential and demonstrated motivation to perform satisfactorily at a CSU, but they have not been able to realize their potential because of their economic or educational background. The program provides admission and academic assistance to EOP-eligible undergraduate students. In many cases, the program offers financial assistance to eligible students. • Separate EOP application must be completed and submitted by individual campus deadline.

On-line applications • Things to have ready: • Copy of high school transcript • Copy of college transcript • Social security number • Use full legal name • Test results for SAT, ACT, and AP • Updated resume
Letters of Recommenation- Teachers • A letter of recommendation by an adult is a courtesy to you, not an obligation • Be sure to ask teachers of classes you did well in and know you personally • Please request the letter in person before you complete an electronic request • Allow a minimum of 4 weeks notice • Requests can be made before applications are completed • Be sure to follow up with a verbal or written thank you note to the teacher
Next steps • Update resume • Complete the college deadline form • Make a “realistic “ list of colleges • Maintain grades • Work on required essay prompts • Fill out scholarship applications
Determining a List of Colleges • Students should group college in distinct categories: • Safety- must exceed the GPA and SAT or ACT for the average admitted students in the 2012-2103 freshman class • Good fit- GPA and SAT or ACT scores fall well within the reported averages for admitted students in the 2012-2013 freshman class • Reach- “Dream school” where student has below the average GPA or SAT and ACT for admitted students or the percent of students accepted is extremely low. Only 1 or 2 schools in this category. **College Board is an excellent resource for this information.
Family Role in College • Take students to visit campuses • Ensure you know the costs of applications and deadlines • Help students fill out FAFSA and CSS Profile (if applicable) • File tax returns early • Help students make realistic decisions regarding distance from home, transportation, cost, etc.
Thank You • Thank you for your time, attention, and support of your student • They have worked very hard to get here and should be commended for being college eligible!
