Battle of Puebla • 8,000 well armed French Army attacked 4,000 poorly equipped Mexican army and lost. • The victory was a moral boost and united Mexico, later they fell to the French, but the battle of Puebla was significant to the Mexican people. • After the Civil war, The U.S. helped Mexico drive out the French.
Celebration • The first celebration of Cinco de Mayo in the U.S. was California (1860). • In Mexico it is only a regional celebration in the State of Puebla
