GARNOCK WAY • Garnock Way was a short-lived Scottish Soap Opera • Produced by Scottish Television for the ITV network • The show was a forerunner of Take the High Road • Set in a town halfway between Glasgow and Edinburgh. • In 1980 Garnock Way was replaced by Take the High Road • Which was a bigger budget affair and more in keeping with the 'tartan' perception of Scotland.

TAKE THE HIGH ROAD/HIGH ROAD • Take the High Road was a soap opera produced by Scottish Television • Set in the fictional village of Glendarroch • Exteriors were filmed in the real-life village of Luss on the banks of Loch Lomond. • In 1994, the series' name was changed to just High Road, and from then on it continued to be produced by Scottish Television, for a Scottish audience, until it was cancelled in April 2003.YouTube - Take the High Road - 1/4

TAGGART • Taggart is a long-running Scottish detective programme. • Created by Glenn Chandler. • Made by STV Productions for the ITV network. • Taggart is a Glaswegian detective television programme, originally set and filmed in the area of Maryhill police station in Glasgow. • Internationally famous and is now translated into many languages including German, French and Japanese. MONARCH OF THE GLEN • Produced by Ecosse Films for BBC Scotland and broadcast on BBC One for seven series between 2000 and 2005. • Monarch of the Glen is loosely based on Compton Mackenzie's Highland Novels, which are set in the same location but in the 1930s and 1940s. • Shows the more stereotypical Scotland. • Tartanry and kilyardism are predominant features throughout.YouTube - Monarch of the glen S1-E1-P1

RIVER CITY • River City is a Scottish television drama series created by Stephen Greenhorn. • It is produced and broadcast by BBC Scotland weekly, and is set in the fictional Glasgow suburb of Shieldinch. • The show will be rolled out to a British audience on BBC Two, expected some time this year. EVOLUTION OF SCOTTISH DRAMAS • YouTube - 30 Years of Scottish - Whats on Channel Ten, hen? • Older dramas portrayed Scottish life as very serious and hard. • Not much fun being had by the characters, always struggling through life. • The modern Scottish drama has more room for fun in the characters lives.
