BBE @ NWO Program in cooperation with Brazil • Aim: Collaboration in biobased economy NL-Brazil • NWO divisions: Chemical Sciences, Earth and Life Sciences • Budget: M€ 2 Themes • Crop improvement: more and better agricultural, horticultural and aquaculture products • Sustainable agriculture: resilience of the production system; • Biorefinery • Chemocatalytical, biocatalytical and thermochemical conversion of biomass to fuels and chemicals. BBE @ NWO Partnership program withPaques • Topic: A Novel Platform Technology for the Conversion of Waste Biomass to Renewable Bioproducts • NWO divisions: STW, Chemical Sciences • Budget: M€ 3 • Collaboration: PPP (€: 50% government / 50% Paques) Focus • Develop an in-depth understanding of the fermentation of organic material to VFA (volatile fatty acids) under non-sterile conditions • Develop efficient methods to recover VFA from fermentation broths • Develop novel processes for the efficient conversion of VFA to renewable biobasedproducts Status • 5 projectsgranted
BBE @ NWO Pipeline • For 2012/2013 up till now NWO invested ~M€ 10 in BBE under the top sector policy. • Investments in BBE willfurtherincrease, since: • Numbers on curiositydriven research (talent schemesand response-mode research) willappearby the end of 2013. • The Fund New Chemical Innovations is still open.
