  4. Listen: • The story “A Lucky Accident” is about some inventions that were discovered by accident. As I read, listen for the words: • Unintended • Fortuitous • Adventageous • potential

  5. Amazing Words • Unintended- something that was not planned, accidental • The trip had an unintended benefit for Sarah. • Fortuitous- happening by chance, accidental • It was fortuitous that I won the raffle.

  6. Amazing Words • Advantageous- means giving a favorable benefit • The agreement was advantageous to both groups. • Potential-means an ability or skill that may develop in the future • His teachers knew he had the potential to be an A student.

  8. Comprehension • When we draw conclusions we need to consider two things to base our conclusions on: • Information from the test • Information that you already know

  9. Vocabulary • Vital- important, crucial • Air is vital to breathing and living. • Breathtaking- astonishing • The view over the valley was breathtaking.

  10. Vocabulary • Bizarre- strange • He drew the most bizarre picture of a horse. • High-pitched- shrill and piercing • The girls made the most high-pitched scream.

  11. Vocabulary • Roost- perch • The rooster flew up to roost on the fence. • Headline- the title of a newspaper article • The headline announced that we were at war.

  12. Spelling • Suffixes: • -ous: possession (jealous, famous) • -sion: condition or state of being (tension) • -ion: condition of something (creation) • -ation: state or condition of (relaxation)

  13. Word Analysis • Compound words: With your partner, choose a word from the left side and one from the right side to make words: High breath way step loose rope Head sky rest wear bridge ache Foot line dress path band Tight taking light hold note

  14. Language • Modifiers- a word or group of words that tell more about other words in a sentence • He saw a truck in the driveway that was red and black. (what was red and black, the truck or the driveway?) • He saw a red and black truck in the driveway. (this is more clear)
