Our class is scheduled in the studio • Bring your camera, film and know your sync speed • Bring any props for you to be photographed. Studio time

Student holds Fill card on the Shadow side of The face. Use fill card to lighten shadows
For 35mm camera use 85 to 105 • Do NOT use a wide angle lens • Photograph waist up. With 50mm shoot mid thigh and up. • Include hands • Place model in a vertical frame • Not too tight, remember you have to crop • Use fill card indoors or outdoors to lighten shadows. Portrait lenses
Short • Places main light on side of face away from the camera. • Broad • Places the main light on the side of the face toward the camera. • Butterfly/Glamour/Paramount • Places the main light directly in front of the face and above. • 3-Point lighting Types of Portrait Lighting
Shoot 1 roll of film with several models • At least 4 images of 4 different people • 2 final images, each 8x10, are due. Each of a different person. • Turn in contact sheet • At least one print MUST BE from the studio, the other can be from outdoors • Use longer lens if available. If using 50mm shoot from mid thigh up. Longer lens shoot waist up. Include hands. • Use fill card indoors or outdoor to lighten shadows. Neutral background – blur it-use f/4 to f/5.6 • Vertical framing • Subject from waist up • Eye contact- with lens of camera • Catch light in the eyes • Open shadows, soft light for the face • Use open shade so model doesn’t squint 7 Elements of exterior portrait.
Portrait should NOT be a police mug shot • Those will receive a poor grade • Be creative, but stick to the guidelines • Neutral background-out of focus • Make model feel comfortable, talk to them • Props help • No direct sunlight or spotlight to the face • Use open shade or an overcast day • Don’t’ us babies, young children or pets • Try several poses for each Review
