OBJECTIVE 1: Identify the factors that should be considered in expanding an SAE program. • Anticipated Problem: What are the factors to consider in deciding whether to expand an SAE program? • I. Several factors should be considered before expanding an SAE program.
OBJECTIVE 1 continued • A. Student interest should be a primary concern before increasing the scope of an SAE. Both career and vocational interest should be considered. • B. The overall financial success of the previous year is an important consideration. • 1. Did the SAE project or activity make a profit? • 2. If no profit was realized, then strong consideration should be given to the benefits of expanding before making that decision.
OBJECTIVE 1 continued • C. How efficient was the enterprise? Consideration should be given to the efficiency of your project in comparison to state averages. • D. Will expansion provide the potential for increasing profit and efficiency?

OBJECTIVE 2: Explain how placement and ownership SAE programs may be expanded. • A. Ownership SAE programs refer to the for-profit activities conducted by students as owners or managers.
OBJECTIVE 2 continued • B. Ownership SAE programs can be expanded: • 1. By increasing the scope (the size, sales volume, number of head, number of acres, etc.) of the SAE program • 2. By diversifying (adding or increasing new products and/or enterprises) • 3. By increasing the amount of capital investments (e.g., purchasing major equipment, land, building, etc.) • 4. By increasing the amount of self-labor contributed to the SAE program • 5. By increasing the variety of experiences obtained in the SAE program • 6. By adding to the knowledge gained through the SAE program • 7. By increasing the skills developed from the SAE program
OBJECTIVE 2 continued • C. Placement SAE programs are those in which students are placed with employers in production units, such as farms, ranches, and greenhouses, to produce commodities for wages.
