Status of Result Area #4 : (Technical expertise ensured) Training Plan Result Area 4: Aims to ensure that adequate technical expertise for the SADC THEMA is permanently ensured in the region by implementing various capacity building activities UB, BCA, UZ are charged with the responsibility to drive the development of capacity building Material for the AMESD SADC THEMA core services: Fire, Agriculture and Drought.

Distance Education Results • Comments on Distance Education • Weaknesses • Slow internet • Lack of commitment of participants • Lack of Support from supervisors • Strengths • Trainees stayed in their own premises • Affordable (500€/person for 6 weeks) • Easy to plan and organize • Overall balance is positive, as: • We raise a lot of capacity with a limited amount of budget • This training was a entry-requirement for subsequent training: • Failed participants are not invited to subsequent training. • Exam >> only committed people remain

Status of Result Area #4: Regional Training Number of Participants at Regional Trainings 71 officers (from beneficiary institutions) are trained in the interpretation of thematic information for use in decision-making. Perspective: National Focal Points have access to historical data for research and development.
