Problems He Faced • Social injustice, 2:1; 6:11,12; 7:5,6 (Micah was a farmer – knew personally the small farmers being plundered by men from the cities.) • Religious corruption, 2:11; 3:5,9-11 • Micah’s job, 3:8
Central Message, 6:6-8 • What does the Lord want? He passed by rituals and sacrifices which were central part of O.T. worship! • Amos – “But let justice run down like water, and righteousness like a might stream” (5:24). • Hosea – mercy (3:1,2; 4:1; 6:6) • Isaiah – humility (2:11; 5:15; 10:33; 57:15)
Do Justly, 6:6-8 • Fair-mindedness in action • Contrast – rich (2:1,2), rulers (3:1-4), priests and prophets (3:5,11,12) • In Play – fair vs. cheater (no sharper test than golfer with ball in rough, only God looking) • In Business – Col. 3:22-4:1 • In judgments – Jas. 2:1-4; Jn. 7:24 (Impatient passenger – get child to mother)
Love Mercy • Kindness – love in action, 1 Cor. 13:4 • Only one view of the Samaritan – but we call him good, Lk. 10:25-37 • The rich man – no mercy, Lk. 16:20,21 • God is rich in mercy (Eph. 2:4) – To be merciful is Godlike! • Mt. 25:31-46 The presence of those devoid of mercy would change heaven!
Walk Humbly • Prov. 16:19 “Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.” • 1 Pet. 5:5,6 “Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.”
