The Math What does 225 min. look like? • 225(min) ÷ 60 (min.)= 3.75 hrs per week • About 4 hours per week
The Talk Test • moderate-intensity: you can talk, but not sing, during the activity. • vigorous-intensity: you will not be able to say more than a few words without pausing for a breath.
Moderate Intensity: • Walking ~3 mph • Swimming • Bicycling 10 mph (or slower) • Mowing the lawn, raking leaves, or stacking firewood • Canoeing, kayaking, or rafting
Vigorous Intensity: • Race walking, jogging, or running • Swimming laps • Hockey, soccer, or basketball (continuously) • Bicycling 10 mph or faster • Paddling hard! • Intense yard work (working up a sweat) • Hiking uphill or backpacking
Which minutes count toward the 225? • ALL exercise at REAL school, work, & home count. • But only the time doing the activity… • Don’t count JV & Varsity school sports at other schools.
