Future market trends in motor design Verbrauch • Combustion engine will dominate at least for the following 15-20 years • Market penetration of Diesel-engines will increase in the USA and will be consolidated in Europe. • Gasoline-engines will remain on a high level of dominance worldwide. • Especially in Europe the Gasoline-engine will challenge the Diesel-engine in the fields of Cost, Emission and Fun-to-Drive • Both technologies will be affected by lower fuel availability. They will have to be adopted to new fuels as Gas (ex. CNG), Sun-Fuel, Syn-Fuel or even Hydrogen at a later stage.
Reduction of CO2 KSPG competence General means to reduce CO2 Electric and/or variable mechanical components - oil, vacuum and water pumps Aluminum engine blocks / MMC technology Smaller and lighter components - magnesium intake manifolds LiteKS pistons New piston shaft coatings Improved bearing materials Optimized piston modules New piston design New alloys Reduction of blow-by through piston modules Lower system power consumption Reducing weight Reducing friction Alternative fuels / Flex fuel
