  3. The Database • Full dataset now available online: www.SL-wash.org • In-depth information for each of the 28,000+ points • Data allows better planning and fundraising

  5. Results - Overview Five Key Results • Major investments needed & data shows where • Seasonality is a major issue • Breakdown rates too high • Construction should be focused on fewer pump models • Coordination between agencies needs to be improved

  6. Results - Overview Major investments needed Survey shows total points and detailed service gaps • 28,845 points surveyed 18,908 protected & in use  4,148 partially damaged  5,137 broken down • Service gaps often very local  Detailed investment planning needed

  7. Results - Overview Coordination Lacking Up to 6+ agencies in same chiefdoms just in last 3 years!  Improve coordination to keep overheads low.

  8. Results - Overview Seasonality is a major problem Up to 40% of points provide insufficient water in dry season  Better standards for location & construction required Rainy season Dry Season

  9. Results - Overview Breakdown rates are unacceptably high 22% of points built in 2011 already impaired  Local ownership & active management shown to improve performance and should be encouraged

  10. Results - Overview Focus Construction on Key Pump Types India Mark (II) and Kardia most popular pump types 64% of handpumps are India Mark (II)  Focusing on these key models will economize on training of mechanics and sparepart supply chains
