Welcome to 9th Grade Beginning Sightreading! Hello 9th grade beginning chorus students! During the next three weeks, we will be learning how to sightreading. We will use a non-traditional classroom approach, instead of traditional. Using this approach will allow you to use your creative skills and cooperative learning skills as a means of understanding the concept. This is sure to be a learning experience for everyone. If you are confused at any time, please don’t hesitate to call or email me. I am more than happy to help. During the next three weeks, you will be regularly using online resources called http://www.musictheory.net/and finale notepad.
Objectives The student will be able to: 1. notate various pitches. 2. read various pitches. 3. read and notate pitches on various rhythms simultaneously. 4. distinguish the number of beats each measure should have based on the given time signature. Georgia Performance Standards MHSIC.3- Reading and Notating Music a. Utilize music vocabulary and symbols to read and notate rhythms and pitches using a melodic and rhythmic language. b. Notate rhythms and pitches from aural examples. c. Utilize available music instructional and notational software. MHSIC.5 - Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines a. Create original rhythms and/or melodies.
