Grading Policy • Grading for Language Arts: • Tests 30% • Projects, Presentations 25% • Quizzes 20% • Homework/Class work 10% • Writing/Essays/journals 15% • Grading for Social Studies: • Tests 30% • Projects 25% • Quizzes 20% • Homework/Class work 10% • Interactive Notebook 15% • Most weight is put on tests (studying important!), projects, notebook organization, and writing!

Visual/Performing Arts • Based on an extension of the curriculum • To develop student’s cultural awareness • To have fun while learning! • Address students multiple intelligences • May include: drawing, painting, skits, reader’s theatre, drama, technology, public speaking, debates • Students given choice in how they show their knowledge of CA State Standards
Curriculum California Content Standards in front of textbooks • Language Arts: Text: Prentice Hall • Writing – narrative essay, persuasive essay, research, descriptive, and informal • Reading – Core novels (Wrinkle in Time, The Cay), short stories, poetry, informational, reading strategies, comprehension, vocabulary • Grammar – parts of speech, sentence structure, punctuation, usage, spelling • Social Studies – Text: McDougall Littell • Semester 1 – Ancient Civilizations (geography, early man, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Kush, and Israel) • Semester 2 – Civilizations (China, India, Greece, and Rome) • Objective: • Patterns in civilizations: geography, politics, economy, religion, culture
Homework Policy • Late Homework is not accepted! • Reinforces what has been learned • Prepares student for upcoming lessons • Teaches responsibility • Helps student develop strong study habits • Projects/Essays will be reassigned and completed in study hall • Absences • Students are responsible for obtaining and completing missed assignments if absent • Allowed 1 day for each day of absence to turn in missed work • Projects and essays will be due the day upon the student’s return
Supplies • Main Supplies • 2 three ring binders no larger than 1” or 3 prong folders • Dividers for Language Arts and social studies • Journal – spiral notebook or composition book • Notebook Paper • Donations • Books Please!!!!! • Art Supplies – markers, colored pencils, crayons, watercolors, etc…
