Description of The CMS • A mouse trap is tied to a lever which knocks down a weight and when set off sets a ball into motion. • Ball falls down a series of platforms and at the bottom hits dominos that set off another mouse trap. • The series of events is then repeated on the other side
Energy Conversions • Force of the spring in both mouse traps • Gravitational potential energy of both the weights • Gravitational potential energy of the marble rolling down the ramps • Conservation of momentum of the dominos at the bottom of the ramp
Design Issues • Overall cost was about $20 • The Time limit of 10 seconds gave us a bunch of problems • Bag of weights were very hard to balance on levers • Ball didn’t hit the dominos when it came down. • Mouse traps hurt.
Conclusions • Fun to build, however troubleshooting, not so fun • Great way to see Engineering concepts in action • 10 seconds was the hardest requirement to follow • Mike’s really funny when he gets frustrated.
