Most of Britain's population have usedtext messagesto vote for their favourite pop star or celebrity in the interactive TV programmes on television and radio andtext messagingis also being used to address more serious current affairs issues. New Year's Day 2007 On New Year's Day 214 million text messageswere sent,  the highest ever daily total recorded SMS . . . Text Messaging December - 2006 142 million messages are sent per day: Source: MDA. Person-to-person texts sent across the UK GSM network operators during 2006 showed an average of 3.75 billion messages being sent per month and 123 million messages per day. New Year’s Day2007 - later March 2003 figures revealed a new all time high in the number of text messages sent each month in the UK The total number of chargeable person-to-person text messages sent across the four UK network operators during March (February) was 1.72 (1.53) billion. This figure took the daily average to approximately 56 million – double the amount sent in March 2001 with an hourly average of approx. 2 million. 7. Things to look for in a web sms service • Do you need to register with your own mobile phone number? • Will others see it? • Can you send bulk sms? (to groups etc.) • You can send but can they reply? (is there an Inbox, Outbox) • Do replies go to the web site or your phone? • How long do replies get saved for? (can you identify them?) • Can you store the phone numbers? • Can they be grouped? • How much does each text cost? How many free texts in a day? Typical 4p a message • How long before the messages get delivered? Late at night? • Is there any advertising attached?
