1 Year Programs • Certificates • Certificates are usually awarded after a year of full time study. • Programs are generally are 20-40 credit hours. • Example: NRCC’s Game Design, Web Design & Animation Career Studies Certificate Mrs. Eaton
2 Year Transfer Degrees The following Associate Degrees are designed for those students wishing to transfer to a four-year institution • Associate in Arts and Sciences (AA & S) • Primarily general education courses • Example: NRCC’s Transfer Degrees (see next slide) • Associate of Science (AS) • General education and science courses • Associate of Arts (AA) • liberal arts area that requires a foreign language • Note: Students whose primary intent is to transfer to four-year universities should major in programs leading to an AS, AA or AA&S degree. 2 Year Degrees - AAS • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) • The AAS is a degree in a technical area that provides students skills for entering the job market. Although the AAS degree is not designed to transfer, NRCC has agreements with RU for the IT degrees. Mrs. Eaton

IT Degree (AAS) • This NRCC degree prepares the student to enter the job market as a computer programmer or software developer with a foundation in programming, networking, web design, telecommunications and information technology. • If you like • CSC 200 Intro to CS • ITP 110 Visual Basic.NET I or ITP 120 Java • then you’ll probably like this degree. IT Network and Technical Support Specialization (AAS) • This degree prepares the student to enter the job market as a computer technician or entry level systems administrator with a foundation in hardware, operating systems, programming, networking, web design, telecommunications and information technology. • If you like • ITN 100 Intro to Telecommunications, or • ITN 101 Intro to Network Concepts, or • ITN 107 PC Hardware & Troubleshooting, • then you’ll probably like this degree. IT Computer Graphics & Web Design specialization (AAS) • This degree prepares the student to enter the job market as an entry level web designer with a foundation in art, marketing, IT, computer graphics, computer programming, and web design. • If you like • ITD 110 Web Page Design I, • then you’ll probably like this degree. IT Game Design specialization (AAS) • This degree prepares the student to enter the job market as an entry level programmer, game tester, or game level designer • If you like • ITP 160 Intro to Game Design & Development • ITD 112 Creating Web Graphics • then you’ll probably like this degree. NRCC to Radford University • NRCC has articulation transfer agreements with Radford University. • Information Technology AAS degree (all specialization) can transfer to RU with 65 credits. • Without the articulation agreement, AAS degree students get 15 – 18 credits. Mrs. Eaton
4 Year Undergraduate Degrees • Bachelor of Science (BS) • Bachelor of Arts (BA) • Minimum 120 credit hours • The most common degrees from American universities are • B.A. for Bachelor of Arts or • B.S. for Bachelor of Science Mrs. Eaton
Graduate Degrees - Master • Minimum 30 graduate credits • M.A. Master of Arts • M.S. Master of Science • M.F.A. Master of Fine Arts • M.B.A. Master of Business Administration • Awarded at the end of a prescribed graduate level course of study Mrs. Eaton
