Note: “degrees" can also mean temperature, but here we are talking about angles.
The Degree Symbol We use a little circle ° following the number to mean degrees. Ex: 90° : 90 degrees
Circle A Full Circle is 360° Half a circle is 180° Quarter of a circle is 90°
Measuring Degrees We often measure degrees using a protractor: The normal protractor measures0° to 180°
How Do You Measure Degrees? 1. Place the center point of your protractor at the point where the sides of the angle meet (the vertex).
2. Place the protractor so that one of the lines of the angle you want to measure reads zero (that's actually 0°).
3. Read the number off the protractor where the second side of the angle meets, and that’s it! Angle G is 60°
Reading A Protractor Protractors usually have two sets of numbers going in opposite directions. (Those Numbers Are Degrees)
When in doubt think, “Should this angle be bigger or smaller than 90°?" (Hint: Think of your angles: acute ,obtuse ,& right)
