  1. GSC Reorg Proposal For Final Vote, February 25th, 2014

  2. Proposal Outline Rationale for the Re-organization Reorganizing in Three Changes: A. Change # 1 – Shifting & Sharing Responsibilities B. Change #2 – Half of the GSC elected in September C. Change #3 – Focus on Clear Responsibilities Voting Terms Next Steps

  3. I. Rationale for the Re-Org • Currently the GSC is comprised of 18 Leadership Positions. • But, many responsibilities are concentrated in too few roles, making some roles unsustainable and others redundant?

  4. With A Re-Org, We Hope to: • Add more support to the administrative half of the organization (Communications & Club/Leadership Development), both which are very big jobs for busy students • Assign more concrete responsibilities/traditions for specific rolls to pass on from one year to the next (transition) • Give different cohorts more input in the GSC • (All terms will still end at the end of the May)

  5. The Goal is NOT to Change the size of the organization, but rather…

  6. Shift Responsibilities between Existing and/or New Roles New Roles Proposed • Add 1 New Co-VP of Events • Add 1 New Director of Events Marketing • Add 1 New VP of Club Management • Add 1 New Director of CCD for the One Years • Add 1 New VP of Blended Learning Students Old Roles Cut/Amended • Remove the Director of Wellness and Health Position • Remove the First Year CDR Positions • Move One Year CDR Position to Summer CDR & Some Structural Changes • TWO separate Operational Units • Community Development (Directly Reporting to the President) • Club & Leadership Development (Directly Reporting to the EVP)

  12. III. Voting • Options May Change By the Tuesday Vote, Please Provide Your Input: • Option A: Each member of the GSC has equal voting rights. There is no “executive committee” to vote on special items. • Option B: Each member of the GSC has equal voting rights. Second Years Run in the May Elections, but cannot run in the September Elections. All Other Cohorts Run in September Elections. • Option C (tentative): Each Cohort is assigned GSC position(s) it can run for. Ensuring that there is a more equal distribution of cohorts in the GSC.

  18. Rationale for Two CCD Positions Why: CCD has expectations of this individual to run events for students and the work load is typically not realistic for one person. The CCD liaison typically has a good grasp on his/her class needs, but the career needs from other classes are very different.CCDwants to have a solid peer connectors program in place at Babson, but this will require more than one person to coordinate. Peer Connectors are a best practice across many MBA programs, so it does make sense for us to put one in place. However, the effort is big and Babson is still trying to find the right balance for its peer connectors program. Finally, my transition was 15 minutes in May and needless to say I had no clue what I was doing. It is imperative that I have some time to pass on knowledge to a CCD liaison before May this year to ensure success. I think there are three options. Here are my thoughts in order of preference, but please note I think that any of these would work: First Option: Elect a second year CCD co-director at the end of March or beginning of April. Elect a one year co-director within the first month of the 1 year program.Thefirst co-director election depends on overall GSC elections. This allows for a smooth transition from one CCD director to another. The March/April time frame is important because it allows second year peer connectors to apply and be selected before the summer months. The second CCD person (a one year student) can work with the second year student to take over summer activities, maintain an active conversation with CCD, and allow one year peer connectors to apply and be selected during the summer months. This will take the pressure off of the first director when he/she is focused on their internship or summer venture. The two positions come together in the fall to put on programming and the peer connectors program in tandem.
