Origins • Vodun originates from the West African Yoruban people that lived in the 18th and 19th centuries
Sects • These different sects have similar beliefs, they include • Santeria • Kongo • Macumba • Umbanda
VodunReligon Numbers • 60 million worshippers worldwide • Majority of believers reside in Haiti and the surrounding areas with about 7 million believers
Holy Books and Afterlife • No Holy Books exist for Vodun, any religious stories are said instead of written • When someone dies, followers of Vodunbelive the spirit hovers around the corpse for seven to nine days but may be captured and made into a “spiritual zombie” A priest then would perform a ceremony to let the spirit live in dark waters for a day and a year, when that time is over, the family tries to summon the spirit and capture it in a clay jar
