What to do When they fake read (or skim read)
Quick review • A-Z chart • Pair-share-square
Big problems • Students don`t actually read the text. They copy the guided questions off of classmates • Students don`t take good notes; they write down almost everything • Without students able to bring texts home, they miss the most important element of literacy . • Clearly identifying context clues, comprehension of main idea, and being able to summarize what was read. • Students don´t really understand the main ideas of what they read. • Have difficulty answering questions when thinking or analyzing is involved. (They are good at finding the answer when the question is written in the exact same words as the text.)
Common Core • Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make inferences from it. • Determine central ideas or theme of a text and analyze their development; summarize the key supporting details and ideas. • Analyze how and why individual, events, and ideas develop and interact over the course of a text.

I get $10,000 just for a single kidney?” “That’s right, son.” Slipping into unconsciousness, I asked with slurred speech, “Then…why…all the secrecy...?” “Because I get twice that for a heart.”
