Modalities: How to make identified technologies work • Technology demonstrations in the target and new communities • Meeting (15 January 2012) with stakeholders to identify partners that have common ground with Tanzania SIMLESA technologies • Use farmer cooperatives (TFA) to distribute and sell seed of identified varieties • Train communities to produce their own pigeon pea seed (QDS)

Modalities: How to make identified technologies work cont….. • License seed companies to produce the two maize hybrids • Engage government leaders (District Commissioners) in fast tracking the process of transfer of Tanzania SIMLESA technologies • Demonstrate and sell seed for the identified maize and pigeon pea varieties during the East African Grain Fair in Arusha, June 2012 • Use media to reach more farmers

  10. Media to be used • Local radios operated by some District Councils such as Boma FM • Farmers Swahili Ukulima wa Kisasa magazine edited in Dar and distributed in the intended areas • Social media (Local dances and songs)

  11. Possible Constraints • Limited funds for stakeholders willing to participate (25 %) • Infrastructure is limiting technologies to reach farmers in remote villages • Some policy issues limiting the transfer of technology (licensing the public maize hybrids to Private seed companies)
