  2. The Role of Intelligence • Intelligence is the ability to interpret and understand everyday situations and to use prior experiences when faced with new situations or problems. • *Interactions with family members, availability of play things and encouragement can promote intelligence*

  3. Methods of Learning • Incidental Learning-unplanned • Trial and error learning-trying solutions before finding one that works • Imitation-watching and copying others • Directed learning-learning that is taught

  4. Concept Development • Children learn concepts and categories in stages. • Ex. All round food is a cookie • Intellectual activity is broken into 7 areas: See Pages 384-391
