Consequences of STDs • Some are asymptomatic – (w/o symptoms) causing permanent damage before you know • Some are incurable – pathogens cannot be eliminated from body (genital herpes, AIDS, syphilis, HPVs, Hepatitis B) • Some cause cancer and cannot be cured (Hepatitis B, HPV) • Some cause sterility – damage to the reproductive organs - NO KIDS • Some cause birth defects in baby and can be passed to baby before, during, or after birth
