Set-Up • When you walk in on a seminar day the class will be arranged in two circles (inside and outside). • Students will switch circles at the halfway point of the mod. • Inside • your responsibility is to discuss the questions that I give, citing evidence from the text to support your statements • While others are speaking you are to listen and not interrupt. • You may ask questions of others in the inner circle if it pertains to the discussion. • Please stick to the subject. • Outside • you’re to be actively listening by taking notes, looking up text references, and maintaining focus on the discussion.
Teacher’s Role • The teacher’s main role is to listen. • The only time I will talk will be to pose questions, or to regain the focus of the discussion.
Expectations • Respect the opinions of your peers • Keep an open mind • Suspend judgment • Do not get defensive—this is a discussion, not a debate • No interrupting • No sarcasm • Listen to others • There are no write or wrong answers • It is alright to change your mind on a topic
