Socratic seminar Behavior Expectations • Groups will be created ahead of time. • Groups will have a maximum of six people per group unless otherwise created. • Respect the thoughts and opinions of others – disagreement is natural and acceptable; disresperct is deliberately malicious and unacceptable. • One voice at a time – allow people to finish speaking before commenting. • Be aware of your speaking time – be concise with your comments to allow others time to speak. • Keep the volume of your discussion to your own group as best you can so other groups can still participate in their own discussions.
Socratic Seminar Grading procedures • Please place desks in a circle once given a group assignment. • Socratic Seminar • Write your name on the line for “Evaluated” • Pass the grading sheets two people to the right. • Write your name on the second line for “Evaluator” • Begin the seminar. • Rubric Grading • Give a point for each time the person you grade makes a valid point, not just for talking. • Please write down 6 relevant quotes your person said to share out.
Question 1 • What are the main reasons people fight? • Is there a solution for any of these reasons so fighting doesn’t continue?
Question 2 • How responsible is society for promoting peace between its citizens? • When is society not to blame for the actions of its citizens?
Question 3 • Gangs fight each other every day over many different reasons. • How many of these reasons would be valid to ordinary, non-gang affiliated people? Why?
Question 4 • Two or your friends cannot stand each other. You have always been the neutral person in the middle. • When would you feel the need to step in and make them peaceful with each other, if ever?

Question 6 • If you fell in love with someone from a family who yourfamily members fight with all the time, would you • A.) Keep dating the person. • B.) Break up to stay loyal to the family. • Explain your choice.
Question 7 • In your opinion, how long should two people wait before getting married? • What sorts of things should a couple have learned about each other before getting married?
