  1. Student Media Arts Competition Where will humanity be by the year 2045 if we fail to tackle disaster risk? The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), and the ANDROID Disaster Resilience Network are launching a Media Arts competition undergraduates and postgraduates as a way to look into the future: Where will humanity be by the year 2045 if we fail to tackle disaster risk? We are looking for original, wise, brave, eye-opening and creative outcomes that will increase the awareness of viewers to the dangers of ignoring disaster risk, to the resilience of humans facing, to the politics of international development, and to efforts and agents of change locally and worldwide. The competition is linked to a major global campaign run by the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR). 2000 cities from across the world are partners in the campaign. Entries will be displayed at the 4th International Conference on Building Resilience, to be held from 8th – 10th September 2014, MediaCityUK, in Salford, UK. Winning entries will also be showcased at the 3rd World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, Sendai City, Japan, 14 to 18 March 2015, and organised by the United Nations General Assembly. The event is expected to attract around 8,000 participants with several thousand more participating in public-related events linked to the World Conference. Winners will receive cash prizes awarded by the Centre for Disaster Resilience and certificates awarded by UNISDR The Judges will consist of esteemed media and humanitarian industry professionals, including representatives from UNISDR Students will have access to data and other materials provided by UNISDR to serve as inspiration for their filmmaking, broadcasting and animation.  Deadline for the submission of your entry is 15th August 2014
