  10. Lateness and sickness If your child is sick and unable to attend school please inform the school office as soon as possible and ideally before school starts. Following a stomach upset, children must be kept off school for 48hrs after the last instance of sickness. If, on the odd occasion, you are late getting your child into school before the outside gate closes at 9.00am, please come into the main Reception and sign your child in along with the reason for lateness.

  11. Medicines If your child needs medication, but is well enough to attend school, you should bring your medicine into the school office at the beginning of the day and sign a medication request form giving a member of staff authorisation to administer the correct dosage of medicine. Please note: Only medicines prescribed by the doctor will be given in school.

  12. Accidents in school Accidents are unavoidable in any environment and sometimes happen during the school day – these are usually bumps and grazes. All accidents are reported and treated by our First Aid trained staff in school. If your child receives a bump to the head he/she will receive a bumped head letter to bring home. If we feel the injury is of a more serious nature we will contact you immediately.

  13. School meals From September 2014 all children in Reception and Key Stage 1 have received a FREE school meal. All food is cooked and prepared in our school kitchen. We serve a balanced nutritional meal which includes fresh fruit and vegetables. Menus are available on the school website and class notice boards.

  14. Free School Meals & Pupil Premium • From Year 3 onwards a free school meal is income-related • All children from Reception to Yr 6 may be eligible for a free school meal • Receipt of free school meal results in school receiving pupil premium funding of £1300 per pupil per year, the money must contribute to ‘raising the attainment of disadvantaged pupils & closing the gap with peers’ • Pupil Premium funding still needs to be claimed even if your child is receiving the Universal Infant Free School Meal in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 classes • School must have written permission from parents to use their information - Check with the school office if you feel you may be eligible

  15. Parking & Collecting Children • The school car park is for staff only at all times of the day, including when collecting children from after school clubs. • School requests parents and visitors do not park on High Elm Drive or Wilton Drive at any time of the day.

  16. Collection of children from school If you are unable to collect your child from school please ensure that you inform the class teacher or the office with the name and relationship of the person who will be collecting him/her. Children will not be released from school into the care of another person unless we have had notification from yourselves. All parents have been provided with a unique Password, with is kept securely by the class teacher. Please ensure this password is given to any unknown adult collecting your child.

  17. Areas of Learning

  18. End of Year Expectations … • At the end of Nursery • Throughout the year, working toward 30-50 month & 40-60 age-related expectations • ‘Emerging’ • ‘Expected’ • ‘Exceeded’ • At the end of Reception • Throughout the year, working toward 40-60 month age-related expectations & Early Learning Goal • ‘Emerging’ • ‘Expected’ • ‘Exceeded’

  19. How do we ‘share’? • What do parents know about their children? • What do school know about your children? • School Pupil Tracker - an online record of your child’s time in school that both parents and school contribute to • Parents will need to complete an automated online registration process • Parents Evenings • Information gathered during initial visits to school • SPTO - A ‘postcard’ system: • Family events eg birthdays, holidays, visits to cinema/theatre • Twitter!!

  20. An example of SPTO postcard • Homework could include: • A recent holiday • A trip to the park • A trip to a museum • Nursery- Comments and asks questions about aspects of their familiar world such as the place where they live or the natural world. • Reception-Children know about similarities and differences in relation to places, objects, materials and living things. • There is a constant focus on Communication & Language, particularly speaking

  21. Other ‘homework’ … • Opportunities to read at home & at school supported and enhanced with “STORY SACKS” • Language development through story telling • Language development through making up own stories • Blending & segmenting skills • Occasionally, we will ask that you share discussions with your children regarding a particular topic – and note any relevant comments. • Tricky words and reading/writing of CVC words. For example, cat tap tin

  22. Home Visits We re-introduced home visits in Nursery in September 2017 and found this to be a great success. Home visits help to build relationships with the children prior to their start date. They provide an opportunity for parents to share any relevant and important information. Due to the success last year, new Reception children will also have a home visit in September 2018.

  23. Uniform Nursery Uniform is optional. However, many parents do choose: • White polo shirt (Elmridgelogo or plain) • Grey trousers/skirt/pinafore • Green cardigan/jumper • Green summer dress (Easter to October half term) Reception • A shirt and tie is not required for EYFS • Children are expected to wear a white polo shirt • Grey trousers/skirt/pinafore • Black shoes • Elmridge cardigan or jumper

  24. PE uniform • Pupils should wear an Elmridge yellow t-shirt and green shorts • Reception are able to wear pumps as they do not go outside for PE – these are used to move around indoors • However, on occasion, external providers may teach PE sessions outdoors. Trainers will be required for this and a letter will be sent out beforehand All items of uniform can be ordered from our supplier, Monkhouse. You can download our uniform policy from the school website.
