  2. Why be certified? • By going through this step-by-step tutorial, you will attain a Sawmill Certificate good for three years. • Your certificate will give you a pay advance and two extra paid vacation days per year.

  3. Start with your attire . . . • There are essential personal protective equipment required at the sawmill. • Wear a sturdy hard hat at all times.

  4. More essential protective gear. • Wear gloves and safety goggles. • Safety goggles must have side corners for eye protection

  5. Remember your ears. • Wear hearing protection while at saw is turned on. • Be alert while ear gear is covering your ears.

  6. Color coding These four colors you must remember for identifying primary hazards. Red Yellow Blue White

  7. Color coding Flammable Caution Corrosion—destroys skin on contact Combustible—such as oil Red Yellow Blue White

  8. Lockout/Tagout • All energy sources must be eliminated prior to doing maintenance work on, near, or around machinery.

  9. How to lift—the right way. • The proper lifting procedure is – lifting with your legs...keeping the load close to your body...do not lift and twist… and keep your nose between your toes.
