What is Organic • Organic Foods – Foods produced using methods that 1. do not involve modern synthetic inputs like synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilisers 2. do not contain genetically modified organisms 3. produced without radiation, industrial solvents or chemical food additives • Organic Farming – form of agriculture that relies on techniques like crop rotation, green manure & compost and biological pest control

What is Organic Certification • A nationally and internationally recognised set of standards aimed at proving that agricultural and food products are produced without using synthetic chemical products • Respect for environment and animal welfare • Optimize yield potential of crops • Use of natural farming practices • Involves a set of production specifications for growing, storage, processing, packaging and shipping • Assessment and qualification references require control and certification by an accredited CB

Organic Certification Standards • NPOP – India Organic : APEDA • EU / Swiss • NOP – US National Organic Program • Certification Scheme depends on Country of Production and Country of Destination • Scope Certificate is valid for 1 year under NPOP, EU & Swiss • NOP is open ended, subject to successful annual surveillance • Transaction certificate : certified operators need this certificate in the required format while dispatching organic certified produce

ISO 14001 certification awarded to “RashtrapatiBhavan” the official residence of President of India, located in New Delhi, • “Rashtrapati Bhavan”, is the largest residence of any Head of the State in the world. It has an estate which sprawls over 340 acres (an acre is 4840 square yards). • This news was also covered in the newspaper “The Hindu”, New Delhi edition on 26th July 2010.
