Objectives for programme: Students will gain knowledge and understanding of: • The economic and socio-political issues of Africa and South Africa • Using scenarios to understand and scope the future • Develop and innovate business models • The market and segmentation techniques in South Africa • Innovating value chains/operating models, and the role of ICT in the process, as well as the status of such innovation in Africa • The sustainability challenges for South Africa and Africa
Methods used on this programme: The objectives of the EMBA International Week will be achieved by utilizing the following methods: • Lectures by expert faculty • Case studies in class • Company visits to appropriate companies that will enhance the learning addressed during lectures

Module Schedule: Monday Monday, September 23rd: The Business Context of Africa and South Africa Morning • A general overview of the economic, social and political characteristics of the regional, national and continental context • Doing business in Africa: Challenges & Opportunities – a macro view • Facilitators: Prof Andre Roux, Prof Wolfgang Thomas Afternoon • Company Visit: Sanlam Emerging Market (financial services subsidiary of Sanlam) • Issues: Serving the bottom-end of the market; growing into Africa and India
