Blitzing Techniques • We identify our blitz technique with 4 terms: Inside or Outside & Level 1 or Level 2 • An Inside blitz is any blitz that attacks a gap between two offensive players • An Outside blitz is any blitz that attacks a gap with only one side is protected by an offensive player • Level 1 tells the blitzer to attack at a flat angle and “Run the Heel Line”. He has no contain responsibility. • Level 2 tells the blitzer to attack the “Hip of the Deepest Back”. He has contain responsibility.
Inside Blitz Technique • An Inside Blitz usually attacks A, B, or C gaps. • The blitzer must expect a power running play when he hits his gap. • We use the phrases “Pads Low” & “Thick in the Hole”.
Outside Blitz Technique • An Outside blitz usually attacks C or D gaps. • The blitzer should be attacking from a position that allows for his quickest movement. • We use the phrases “ High & Hard” and “Stealing 2nd”.
BLITZ TERMINOLOGY • AX = A gap • BANG = B gap • CHOP = C gap • FLY = OLB blitzes contain • RAZOR = OLB blitzes first gap inside • SPIKE = OLBs blitz contain • MIKE X = MLB crosses with NG
BLITZ TERMINOLOGY • THUNDER = Strongside ILB & OLB • LIGHTNING = Weakside ILB & OLB • HURRICANE = MLB & both ILBs • SMACK = SAM & MIKE LBs • WHAM = WILL & MIKE LBs • CROSS = Exchange gaps • STAB = ILB shoots down line thru 1st gap • OPPOSITE = ILB attacks opposite A gap • BLASTER = SAM & WILL thru same A gap
BLITZ TERMINOLOGY Line Stunts • TEXAS = Twist between DE & NG; the DE goes 1st • OKLAHOMA = Twist between NG & DE; NG goes 1st • ALASKA = weakside DE thru A gap • BAMA = NG goes strongside B gap
BLITZ TERMINOLOGY Change-Ups • TUFF Package = even front with MIKE & NG on the interior line • BEAR Package = double eagle look covers every lineman in the box • FALCON = The ILBs give a 2 deep look • SHARK = Both OLBs play on the same side

SLANT HURRICANE This is our #1 stunt in terms of effectiveness. The slant can be called to the strength or weakness. Usually Cover 3 with OLBs slow playing the flat
BEAR Package • We use our BEAR Package as a change-up to stop the run and to allow our players to play very, very aggressively. • We want every available blocker to be covered. • We will usually play Cover 11 (Man Free) • We will also stem to this from BASE
