They keep a very strict fast called ‘Karwa Vrat’ on this day to give their husbands the blessing of a prolonged life. Here you can find all the necessary information on the rituals of Karwa Chauth.
● On this day, women wake up very early and have the only meal of their day before sunrise. During their fast, they cannot eat or drink anything till sunset. Once, they see the moon through a strainer, they break their fast and then sit in a circle with all the other women of the locality and family for pooja. ●All newly married women receive ‘Sargi’ from their mothers-in-law. Sargi includes earthen pots filled with food prepared by mothers-in-law for their daughters-in-law. These women consume the food before starting their fast for the day. ●‘Baya’ is given to daughters-in-law by their mothers-in-law. Baya typically includes saree, jewelry, cosmetics, sindoor, money, etc. Though for newly married women, on their first Karwa Chauth, they give Baya to their mothers-in-law. ●In the evening, women gather at someone’s house and sit for the pooja. The traditional story of Karwa Chauth is narrated to all the women. Following that, women pray together for the well-being and prolonged lives of their husbands. ● Upon the rising of the moon, women break their fast. They light diyas, fill the Gadvi with water, place the strainer on their pooja thali through which they will see the moon and break their fast.
