Magnetic Measurements of MQWA10 M. Buzio, J. Dutour, J. Garcia TE-MSC-MM FIDEL Meeting 29/09/2009
Generalities Purpose: FIDEL model refinement considering the most recent definition of LHC powering cycles Setup: spare MQW10 in bdlg. 867 – harmonic measurements with 38mm QIMM mole #1 Main differences with respect to the 2004/2006 series test campaigns: • magnetization cycles must be done before the measurements to ensure the stability of the hysteresis cycle • measurements useful for the FIDEL model are done on the increasing current branch Notes: • measurements on the decreasing current branch done to evaluate the width of the hysteresis loop (~ error of the series measurements). Not all points taken on the up branch need to be repeated (esp. in the central linear part) • at every position of the mole (5 longitudinal positions × 2 apertures) the current is cycled through the requested steps, then the mole is moved to the next position • every magnetic measurement repeated 3× to evaluate random noise • ramp rate for magnetization and demagnetization cycles = 100 A/s
