Digital Marketing Examples 2013 Sarah Arnold Communications Specialist Mid-America Council
Overview • The Mid-America Council utilizes Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Shutterfly, YouTube and a Wordpress Blog, in addition to our newsletters and website. • We manage 15 separate Facebook accounts. Each district has their own, our Council page, Jubilee, Popcorn, Exploring, the Loess Hills Trail Race, and 2 of our camps. • All of our blog posts automatically feed to Twitter and nearly all blog posts are then shared on Facebook, to the appropriate page. • Pinterest and Shutterfly are utilized as a showcase for our photos, either taken by council staff or volunteers. We also share tips and tricks on Pinterest. • On YouTube, we publish all of our videos, from Fireside Chat with Eric, to camp promotions, to popcorn sale promotions.
Social Media – FB Council Page We have a photo contest where our volunteers send in photos based on the theme. This quarter, our theme is, “A Scout is Helpful”. Since we began the contest in June 2013, we have had over 200 submissions. Winners receive a $200 camping package. https://www.facebook.com/BSAMAC
Social Media – FB Little Sioux Scout Ranch Page Cub Resident Camp promotion is in full swing! https://www.facebook.com/LittleSiouxScoutRanch
Social Media – FB Camp Cedars Page We had a lot of people talking about the new gaga ball pits at Camp Cedars after this was posted! https://www.facebook.com/CampCedars
Social Media – FB for Council Jubilee Jubilee will be October 2014 and we’ve really been ramping up the communications. https://www.facebook.com/BSAMACJubilee
Social Media – Council Twitter All of our blog posts automatically upload to Twitter
Social Media – Council Twitter For having a lot of rural communities, we have a lot of followers! https://twitter.com/BSAMAC
Social Media – Council Shutterfly Last fall, we created this photo website. Each is categorized by the event name and date so visitors can find the pictures they are looking for in a timely manner. https://macbsa.shutterfly.com/pictures
Social Media – Council Pinterest We add photos, tips, tricks, and ideas on our Pinterest page. http://www.pinterest.com/bsamac/
Social Media – Council YouTube We post all of our videos to YouTube before we link them to various places on our website, blog, and other social media outlets. https://www.youtube.com/user/MACBoyScout
Social Media – Council Blog Our council blog is where we showcase our newsletters, news releases, news stories from newspapers in our communities, and any other info we need sent out quickly. http://blog.mac-bsa.org/
Website - www.mac-bsa.org Each of the district pages on our council website needed to be completely reworked. The pictures at the top are rotated out and enlarge when the mouse hovers over it. There is now access to their district calendar, district newsletter, district blog (if they have one), contacts, and any other pertinent info needed.
Website – Council Calendar The calendar has become one of the best improvements to the website. Before a calendar was embedded, it was just a list of events each month. Now, anyone can sort by category or by calendar (ie. District). They can click on any blue link and it’ll either take them to the registration page, or a more information page. http://mac-bsa.org/calendar.aspx
Website – Council Forms I created two forms: 1 for calendar events and 1 for advancement events. Anyone that wants their event on our council calendar fills out one of these forms. I am emailed a copy when they hit submit and I have their event created within 24 hours of submission. http://form.jotform.us/form/40217074195148 & http://form.jotform.co/form/33075095099865
