And Even More Choices • Syracuse University Project Advance English (SUPA); Wrt105-Practices of Academic Writing-This part of the course introduces students to the academic thinking, writing, and reading practices of the contemporary university and focuses on the skills of analysis argument. • Ets 142-Narratives of Culture: Introduction to Critical Reading-Students will examine what reading is and how meaning is created through texts and language. The courses uses a variety of works that help students analyze texts.
Advanced Placement English • Literature and Composition: This course follows the AP description found at: http://apcentral.collegeboard.com and works at helping students become more proficient reading of a variety of texts, as well as better writers. The reading is complex, and students are expected to complete a summer assignment prior to September.
AP Information • AP is by recommendation only • Average must be 90+ in previous class • Enrollment limited to two AP concurrent courses • Required summer assignment, part of which is due before school ends • AP exam required

As you begin the college process • Keep the process in perspective • Work together as a family • Students must take ownership • Discuss finances openly • Start early and meet all deadlines • Meet often with your counselor
College Admissions - Testing • Students must register to take the SAT I and/or ACT. • SAT II’s are required for some colleges, usually more competitive schools (check with each school) • River Dell Regional High School CEEB Code: 311054
National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) • Student athletes intending to play NCAA Division I or II sports must register with the NCAA • www.ncaa.org • Students in the Class of 2013 must meet NCAA requirements • 16 core courses (see Program of Studies for approved courses)
Junior Student Small Group Meetings • The counselors will be meeting with the junior students in small groups starting the week of Feb. 6th, in the HS Media Center. • Topics to be discussed include planning for college, work, and other options. • Review of Naviance. • Appointment times for students will be e-mailed and posted outside the counseling office.
Junior Parent Meetings • Learn about the college application process. • Parents must choose one date and call Mrs. Robinson in the Counseling Office to register at (201) 599-7221. Please choose one of the following dates: • Thursday, Feb. 9th 7:00-8:30 pm • Wednesday, Feb. 15th 8:00-9:30 am • Thursday, Feb. 16th 7:00-8:30pm Meetings will be held in the HS Auditorium
