TDP Related Papers At The URSI Meeting Chicago, Ill. August 12-15, 2008 • Overall TDP report, many authors, presented by Lynn Baker • Sandy Weinreb, LNA and quadridge feed results • German Cortes, QSC feed results • Athol Kemball, Jim Cordes, Jack Welch, related topics Lynn Baker US SKA Consortia Meeting Madison WI
SKA Advisory Committee Meeting Washington DC September 10, 2008 • Jim Cordes, Athol Kemball, Lynn Baker representing the TDP • Advisory Committee mostly satisfied with TDP activities and planning • 11 committee recommendations, all being integrated into TDP plans and activities Lynn Baker US SKA Consortia Meeting Madison WI
Work Package 2 Kickoff Meeting Manchester, England November 10-14, 2008 • TDP work block structures well aligned with SPDO work blocks • Concerns and differences on schedules and timelines • Parallel execution of work blocks presents decision making challenges • SPDO documents need to better reflect total TDP contributions Lynn Baker US SKA Consortia Meeting Madison WI
TDP / DRAO Collaboration • DRAO developing high performance, cost effective composite reflectors • DRAO developing focal plane phased array feeds • TDP studying overall antenna designs but not working on PAF’s • Integrate DRAO results into TDP evaluation of antenna technology • Provide DRAO with subsystem information and design to support their efforts Lynn Baker US SKA Consortia Meeting Madison WI
Mk2 Reflector with Phased Array Demonstrator feed attached. • Mk2 reflector has improved: • Surface accuracy • Stiffness • Manufacturability • Cost
Patriot Antenna Systems Study Contract • Short (~6 month) study to provide costing of 2 exemplar antennas • Estimate costs as specifications of exemplars are changed • Study extension of antenna fabrication technology to lower costs • Study improved mounts for cost savings Lynn Baker US SKA Consortia Meeting Madison WI
TDP Planned Measurement Facilities • Feed and LNA development requires accurate and consistent measurements • Noise measurement of feed/LNA combinations, based on cold sky technique, needs radio quiet location, possibly NRAO, Greenbank • Feed measurements require a good antenna range. Cost estimates of a range at Cornell will be compared with commercial options. Lynn Baker US SKA Consortia Meeting Madison WI
