Bad Design Intersection Stop Markers Presented By Joy D. Barbara
Designed to be a permanent visual signal that shows where a vehicle should safely stop
The Problem • Line does not physically stop vehicles • No room for vehicles to turn • Cars over the line unable to back up in heavy traffic • Chain-reaction • Traffic STOPS • Congestion INCREASES • ACCIDENTS OCCUR
Most common types of collisions at signalized intersections Sideswipe 12% Rear End 42% Broadside 28%
A barrier would give motorists a visual and physical reminder of where to stop
The gate would be timed to work with the traffic lights, DOWN on Green, UP on Red
