  3. What is crew welfare? • Crew welfare encompasses all aspects of the seafarers existence whilst on-board and ashore

  4. Safety • International Safety Management Code • Safety Management Procedures • Behaviour Based Safety • Safety Culture • Anti-Piracy Initiatives

  5. Healthy Diet On Board • BSM has set up its own catering division - Seachef • Provides healthy, high quality, well balanced and tasty nutrition food on board • Taking always into consideration the dietary and cultural preferences of crew on board consisting of different nationalities

  6. Health & Fitness Facilities On Board • Designated recreational areas are available on board • Fully equipped gyms where our seafarers can exercise on a daily basis in order to keep fit and healthy • Swimming pools are also available, depending on vessel type and size

  7. Recreational Facilities On Board • Include the following • Games / Wii – Fit / Karaoke • Books & Company Magazine • Films / DVD’s • PC’s / Email / Internet • Darts and table tennis • BSM has established a Recreation Fund available each month, to be administered by a Committee on board

Why Offer These Facilities? • BSM relies on motivated and efficient crew members on board our managed vessels • The crew on board need to have a decent work / life balance, a home away from home • If achieved they will perform to their full potential which is obviously good for all • Without motivated and competent crew, we can forget a shipping industry free of substandard tonnage, casualties, detentions and pollution

  11. Attention To Health & Fitness • Cigarettes and Alcohol were part of the lifestyle of Seafarers in history • Nowadays the health risk and professional risk with reference to ship safety are well known and documented • Employers need to ensure that the awareness will be raised and maintained

On Board and Ashore • BSM are always concerned about the well being of our seafarers and their families • Maintain contact with the families, assist in case of need whilst the Seafarer is on-board • Events and wife clubs organized in various recruitment areas tailored to the national and cultural particularities • Funds and repatriation are available in case of personal crisis / sickness

  15. Job Satisfaction & Fulfilment • 86% Group Officer Retention Rate within a pool of 6,500 Officers with an improving trend • Up to 100% retention rate in some locations and nationalities • Promotion within the Group
