Birth • William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, England in 1564. • He was baptized on April 26, 1564. • William lived at home until at least age 18. • He was born around April 23, 1564.
Childhood • William’s dad was the High Bailiff(Mayor) • William went to grammar school(6 days a week; 12 hours a day) • William probably saw plays with his dad as a boy.
Family • He had 8 children in his family. • His parents were John Shakespeare and Mary Arden Shakespeare. • He lived on Henley street • He lived with his mom and dad-even after he got married .
Marriage and Family • His son, Hamnet, died at age 11 • He was married at age 18 to Anne Hathaway. • He had three children- one son and two daughters- Hamnet, Judith, and Susanna.
Life in London • William went to London without his family. • He was a member of an acting company called the Lord’s Chamberlain’s Men. • Richard Burbage was one of his leading actors.
The Globe Theater • In 1599 they built the Globe Theater and he was part owner. • The Globe Theater burned down • Because of a plague all theaters were shut down for 2 years.
Retirement and Death • William retired back in Stratford . • He bought the second nicest house in Stratford called the New Place. • William Shakespeare died on April 23,1616. • We think he died on his 52 birthday.
Shakespeare’s Plays • Shakespeare wrote: histories, comedies, and tragedies. • He wrote 37 plays and 154 sonnets. • One of the plays he wrote was Henry IV.
Interesting Facts • His family (with wife and 3 kids) lived in one room. • Sam Wannamaker rebuilt The Globe but he did not live long enough to see the opening. • The London Bridge actually fell down and was rebuilt in America.
