Obviously, the warrior gene cannot possibly live up to its name. If it did, the whole world — and China in particular—would be wracked by violence.

In 2010, a Tennessee man was on trial for hacking and shooting a woman to death in a drunken rage. His lawyers urged a jury to show him mercy because he carried the warrior gene. The jury believed this "scientific" argument and convicted the man of manslaughter rather than murder. A prosecutor called the "warrior gene" testimony "smoke and mirrors." He was right.
