  1. The L.Z. Valletta Mission The Ninja Group Period: 5 STEM Akshitha Ajayan Malvika Khanna Pooja Parwatkar (who is currently on a secret mission)

  2. Destination-Cabeus A • Large man-made crater with a depth of 10km • Located near south pole at 82.2º south and 39.1º west • Area of study is center of crater • Evidence shows signs of vapor ice • Resources: hydrogen which may lead to other findings

  3. Objectives • Find if there is possible life on the moon (due to the discovery of vapor ice) • Learn more about the mineral composition of the moon • Build a permanent settlement on the moon

  4. Mission Patch • L.Z. Valletta written in black and green to represent bold and fascinating aspects of the mission • The ninja group is represented by the eye which symbolizes how we are always watching and observing • “The River of Knowledge” shows that abundance of knowledge to be acquired • The river splits into two to show that we are uncertain as to where this knowledge will take us • The sun represents the bright future that lay ahead of us

  5. 1st Mission • Lander and Miner are constructed for mission • Two astronauts aboard a four day mission • Science Instruments: LOLA, Surveyor 3, Moon Mineralogy Mapper, and Miniature Synthetic Aperture Radar • Experiments: testing mineral composition and changing regolith into hydrogen/oxygen • Results: find that there are enough oxygen and hydrogen to extract from soil and find that heating regolith and then exposing to hydrogen gas is the most effective method to obtain chemicals from

  6. Lunar Lander • Crew Compartment: enough room for three astronauts for a five day excursion so it will have plenty of room and supplies for our mission • Rocket Fuel: medium amount of fuel and extra oxidizer tanks which lowers cost but allows decent amount of fuel • Landing Legs: rigid legs with extra storage space allows for calm landing and extra space • Rocket Engines: dual rocket engines with fuel tanks attached serves as a backup fuel system • The lander will be mainly made out of titanium, aluminum, ceramics, and carbon composite • The astronauts will be trained specifically to drive the lander, and to reach Cabeus A, they will use LOLA to guide them

  7. Lunar Miner • Medium size body for low cost and enough storage space • Unmanned for storage space and effective collecting of samples • Solar panels are main power-source • Fuel tanks serve as backup power-source • Conveyor belt-like wheels for smooth movement • Equipment: Camera, radar, and LOLA • Shovel digs into the soil and the arm like extension gathers the samples and places them into the storage areas • Programmed to sort samples based on mineral composition (ex. Large amount of hydrogen, oxygen, etc.) • The miner will mainly be made out of aerogel, titanium, aluminum, and ceramics

  8. 2nd Mission • Materials gathered for base • Crew of engineers aboard mission to build base • Estimated time to finish construction : ten years • Total Cost for base: ten billion

  9. Base • Base is located one mile northeast of Cabeus A • power-source changes regolith into oxygen and hydrogen and powers base through solar energy, hydro energy, and electricity • tubes connected to power-source provide oxygen throughout base • 23 total compartments for living, working, education, and recreation • high tech laboratory with communication to Earth for joint research • landing space for rocket • The tubes will be made out of corrosive chemicals and the buildings will be made out of titanium, aluminum, ceramics, areogel, and carbon composite

  10. Living in Base • Two living areas with necessary facilities (convenient stores, bathrooms, cafeteria, etc.) allows for enough space for each person • Living areas: clusters of houses, indoor garden, and viewing area of the sky to make the residents feel more at home • Emergency information located in each building • emergency passageways to underground trench located inside each building to protect the residents and keep order when in emergency situations

  11. Working in Base • High-tech laboratory to help in gathering information and to aid in research • Stores, gyms, restaurants, library, banks, parks, and malls offer additional jobs to create variety in the community

  12. Education • Schools to educate the youth and help them find a place in the community • The colleges offer a variety of options, especially science and math orientated • Education on the moon exposes youth to the new discoveries and advances in astronomy

  13. Recreation • Stores, gyms, restaurants, library, parks, and malls make residents feel more at home and to have all the main components of a community • The other activities offer a means of relaxation and help create a friendlier atmosphere

  14. 3rd Mission • After construction is complete, residents will begin arriving on the moon • Lander will bring residents and all necessary equipment • Residents will begin adapting to environment • Within an estimated five years, the base will become a permanent settlement

  15. Cost

  16. Benefits Towards Society • Helps advance research about solar system • Helps solve overpopulation • Expands borders and boundaries allowing for new opportunities

  17. The L.Z. Valletta Mission A new future lies one moon away Say “YES” to a brighter future, say “YES” to the L.Z. Valletta Mission
