GVMC at Glance • STATUS OF GVMC : The Visakhaptnam Municipal Corporation has upgraded into that of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation during the year November, 2005 by merging 32 surrounding Gram Panchayats and Gajuwaka Municipality vide G O Ms.No. 938 MA & UD (Elec.II) Dept. dt. 21.11.2005. After merging the said areas, the GVMC consisting of 6 zones and 72 wards.

Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Action Taken Report on Vendor Policy 2004 • Identified street vendors during slum survey • Organized awareness camps on safe drinking water & Hygienic environment • Supplied masks & other tools to maintain health and hygiene • Arranged loans under USEP of SJSRY scheme • Identified spaces for hawkers zones • Restricted street vendors operations in Red Zones during peak hours • Monitoring mechanism established through Public Health section & Town Planning section of GVMC in collaboration with traffic police
Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation GVMC Initiatives to Implement Street Vendor Policy 2009 As per the instructions of the Government, GVMC has initiated to implement the Vendor Policy 2009 in GVMC limits. Which includes • Orientation programme to all Head of the Departments of Town Planning, Public Health, Revenue and Urban Community Development of GVMC on dt 08-12-2009 • Special officers were appointed for smooth implementation of the programme on dt 08-12-2009 • Ward level and zonal level teams were constituted for data collection on dt 09-12-2009 & from 11th identification vendors started. • Consultations meeting with Public, Street vendors Associations and Traffic Police for bifurcating the areas as Red zones, Amber zones and Green Zones in GVMC limits for streamlining the Street Vendors on dt 06-01-2010

Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Activities proposed by GVMC:- • Identification of street vendors, Formation of TVC • Identification of Zones basing on vulnerability (Amber Zone, Green Zone and Red Zone) • Issue of Identity cards to street vendors • Enhancing the capacity of street vendors by organising skill development and entrepreneual skills • Formation of Self-help Groups among the street vendors • Arranging loan facility through nationalized banks • Awareness building on health and hygiene • Periodic monitoring by involving local NGOs • Annual evaluation for appropriate modifications in the policy.
