What musk oxen looks like • Big white horn on top of their head • Look like a buffalo • Fur all over their body • Musk Oxen are 6 feet tall • Stocky body like a cow • Short leg • Male weighs 500 to 900 pound • Females are called cows and weigh less than a male

climate • They live in the Tundra. • The Tundra is the coldest of all biomes, meaning a treeless plain. • The average temperature during the winter is -34 degrees
Habitat • They live in the Northern Tundra. • The winters are on high grounds where wind blows snow off the Musk Oxen. • If the snow stayed on them, it would bury them. • In the summer they move to the lower valley. • In the lower valley they walk around the willows • Musk Oxen live in packs.
food • In spring musk oxen eat weeds, shrubs, and grass • In the winter musk oxen eat bilberry, crowberry, Labrador and tea • When their food is frozen they bang their head on the ice to get it

reproduction • Mother musk oxen give birth every other year!!!!! • Musk Oxen have a lot of time with their young. • The babies grow fast. • They nurse on the mother’s rich milk for one year.
behavior • Musk Oxen live in herds. • When they are getting attacked, they get in a circle with the babies in the middle. • The adults in the herd take turns killing their prey. • They migrate to the lower valley in summer
Physical adaptations • Musk Oxen have lots of fur to protect them from mosquitoes and flies. • Their two coats of fur keep them warm in the cold Tundra. • The outer coat keeps them warm from the snow and wind. • The inner coat traps the warm air to keep the body warm. • In April or May, Musk Oxen shed because the weather gets warmer and they do not need fur. • The horns protect their eyes
Behavioral adaptations • When a herd gets small it joins a larger group to survive. • Musk Oxen lay down to digest their food. • They lower their heads, snort, and paw at the ground to tell their predators to back off.
Physiologicaladaptations • The Musk Oxen have very good eye sight because in the tundra the days are short and the nights are long. • Sometimes there is no real day light for weeks, so the Musk Oxen have a very good sense of smell and hearing in order for them to survive in the Tundra. • They have broad hoofs that prevent them from sinking in soft snow and help scratch through snow in search of food
Awesome facts • Musk Ox have the longest fur out of all the animals in the wild. • The Musk Ox gets its name from its smell. When you get close to a Musk Ox it smells like musk. • They are one of the few animals that can live in the cold Tundra.
